One of my core values, which are beliefs that I ultimately base my decisions in life on, is to foster and experience a sense of awe and wonder at the world around me.  For me nature is a wonderful playground to experience this.  Catching an electrical storm as it glides over a field full of fireflies.  Taking a midnight paddle to watch the Perseid meteor shower or seeing a speeding flock of a thousand birds twist and swirl in unison.

I am always delighted and charged by the majesty and splendor of these marvels of nature.  And as such, I make decision which help bring these types of experiences in to my world, knowing the joy I will derive from them.

Maintaining my health is another one of my deepest core values.  I understand that by taking proactive steps to bring well being into my life it will pay dividends for my enjoyment of the present and help ease the aging process.  Thus allowing me to seek out more enjoyment and quality in my life.

Core Values are fundamental beliefs which guide and dictate a person’s behaviors and actions.  Unfortunately when asked, many people don’t even know where to start.

I belief that for people to be successful in achieving their health goals they must figure out what their primary guiding principles are in order to understand what motivates their decisions.   This means you need to do some introspective looking in the mirror to figure out what makes you tick.  I recommend writing out all the things that make you happy and then narrow them down into 3 or 4 broad categories.

Once you know these core values you can consciously make decisions which bring you closer to your desired goals based on asking yourself this question – Will this bring me closer or further away from what I value the most?
